Members of the St. Rose Parish Knights of Columbus held a fish fry last Friday night in conjunction with the lenten season. Monies raised were donated to the New Hope Pregnancy Center, earmarked for an ultrasound machine.

DMS teams dominate regional Academic Olympics meet

On Tuesday, March 13, the Dillon Middle School Academic Olympics team took 19 of its students to Bozeman to compete in the regional tournament. This year, three Dillon Middle School (DMS) teams placed first, second, and fifth out of 49 teams. The teams are made up of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students who begin practicing for the competition in October of each school year. The winning team is made up of Daniel Martin, Ainsley Shipman, Ben Pickens, Gavin Garrison, Olivette Copple and Sean Regan.

Young local scientists continued to shine, picking up enough ribbons to cover an extra-large lab coat, along with a pair of third-place awards at the 2018 Montana State Science Fair held March 19–20 in Missoula.

“They had an awesome trip. They all responded well and enjoyed it quite a bit,” said Andrew Zitzer of the group of DMS students from his seventhgrade science class and fellow DMS teacher Jack Schoonen’s eighth-grade science class who earned trips to Missoula with their showings at the recent DMS Science Fair.

Ice Melt Contest thaws

The ice is all gone.

But the suspense remains and continues to build for Dillon Rotary’s 2018 Ice Melt Contest.

“The weight went through the ice and the clock stopped last week, but nobody could retrieve it until just the other day,” said Raymond Graham of the specially designed timing device on the Ice Melt Contest raft placed this winter on Logan Lake, which sits on property owned by Graham and his wife
