W. M. Smith 1941-2018

W.M. Smith, 77, of Benton, Arkansas, died peacefully June 4 surrounded by family in Valparaiso, Indiana. He was born in Crossett, Arkansas, on Feb. 26, 1941, to W.D. and Myrtice Smith. W.M. was a master Barber for 58 years, holding licenses in Arkansas, Kansas, Michigan and Montana. He was an ordained minister for 50 years and pastored churches in Arkansas, Kansas, Michigan, Montana and Oklahoma. He loved hunting and fishing in Montana under the big sky, and spending time with family and friends.

W.M. was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Eddie Smith.

He is survived by his “one and only” love of 58 years, Grace Kumpe Smith; sons Wesley Keith (Kelly) Smith of Billings, Montana and Gerald LaDon (Susan) Smith of Chesterton, Indiana; daughter Alisa (Cal) Grisham of Sumter, South Carolina; sisters Bettye Rea Hansche of Ramona, Oklahoma, Cathey Kelly of Crossett, Arkansas; and Aunt Shirley Smith. W.M. loved being a grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Kalob Smith, Kasey Smith, Daytona Smith, Jaclyn Katter, Mitchel Smith, Rebeckah Lafollette and Lyle Grisham.

Chapel services by Ashby Funeral Home were at 1 p.m. Saturday with Bro. John Bagby and Bro. Norman Bryant officiating. Burial followed at Olive Hill Cemetery.

Visitation was held at Ashby’s on Saturday at noon before the service.
