United we move

To the editor,

If you are not controversial you are not a teacher.

If you are not subversive, you are not a learner.

If you are not dangerous you are not a thinker.

Social movements have as their primary aim to bring about change in the existing social order. This includes economic and political relations in which the basic institutions of property and labor dealings are usually primary. In this social interaction a sense of group identity is required. People involved in the movement become aware of the fact that they have feelings in common the primary issues motivating public action. The united action comes about through sharing a sense of injustice, that things can be better, and they share some goals in common in a very broad sense. In the beginning most movements are not organized. Though certain groups participating may be organized.

First there is something wrong that should not be wrong. Next there are things we can do to improve the situation. Then it becomes obvious we are morally obligated to take action to improve the situation. Finally, this set of beliefs and action becomes the only life worth living.
