The University of Montana Western volleyball team the last two weekends battled the best their conference has to offer—and gave better than they got at some points in the matches.

The Bulldogs took a set from league-leading Rocky Mountain College in a 3-1 loss on Saturday to the Battlin’ Bears at Straugh Gymnasium in Dillon, where Rocky swept their hosts, 3-0, on Sunday.

The results against Rocky (5-1), which came into the match ranked no. 18 in the NAIA, roughly mirrored those recorded the previous weekend in Dillon, where the Western women fell, 3-1 and 3-0, in a doubleheader against league co-leaders Carroll College (5-1).

Cady Siemion led UMW with 44 kills while contributing 64 digs across the last four matches, during which her teammates Abbey Schwager distributed 110 assists and Tannah Sellers added 66 digs.

Next up for Montana Western, another doubleheader this coming weekend, on the road in Butte, where the 1-5 Bulldogs will take on Montana Tech (2-4), at the HPER Complex in matches set to start Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Western women will return home to face the University of Providence the following weekend for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader Feb. 26—27.

Match times will also be Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. though per league pandemic policy, no spectators will be allowed to view the matches in person.
