The weather was very unpredictable in Bozeman over the weekend at the Big Sky Region spring rodeo opener hosted by Montana State at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds.

But the changing conditions of rain, snow and wind didn’t affect the Bulldogs as the men’s team won the second rodeo after a third place showing in the opener, and the women stayed steady taking second in both nights. In the first rodeo the women missed the win by just five points.

“The first rodeo we did well and knocked off some rust,” said UMW coach Cody Lahaye. “The second rodeo we really stepped it up and gave our selves a chance and gained a lot of momentum heading into the last three weeks of the season.”

Brody Smith took home the bareback buckle both nights and has won six of the seven rodeos this year.

Buckle Winners Rodeo 1: Brody Smith won the bareback with a score of 74. Emmy Ilgen won the women’s all-around with 200 points

Buckle Winners Rodeo 2: Brody Smith won the bareback with a score of 140 on two. Mikayla Witter won the breakaway roping with a time of 56.9 on two. Bryce Harrison won the steer wrestling with time of 9.1 on two
