Steadman, Shipman lead Beavs x-country

The Beaverhead County High School cross-country teams continued to take strides into their young paced by some excellent performances from their top runners.

At a Hamilton Cross Country Invitational engaging competitors from seven girls and five boys programs last Saturday, BCHS standout Madalen Shipman earned a second-place individual finish with a 21:00:16, while Ben Steadman (17:13:20) notched a third in the boys race to lead their respective Beaver squads to the same finishing spots in the meet’s boys and girls team battles.

Dillon also got top ten finishes from Kelle Mosher, who grabbed eighth on the girls side with a 22:24:26 on the 5k course through the heart of the Bitterroot Valley, and Daniel Martin, who finished ninth in the boys race with an 18:47:50.

Hailey Powell (15th place), Natalie Bush (16th) and Hanne Hansen (29th) also helped the local girls to their silver medal finish in Hamilton, where Dillon’s Henry Hawes (27th), Andy Egan (30th) and Jarrett Mosher (37th) aided the third-place cause of the Beaver boys.

Up next for Beaver cross country, a short road trip for Friday’s Twin Bridges Invite.

The Beavs will host their own meet set for Sept. 26 at Beaverhead Golf Course.
