Sheriff seeking information on Wise River vandalism

Wednesday, June 24, 2020

Reports of slashed tires and rafts in the Wise River area have prompted the Beaverhead County Sheriff’s Office to ask for public help in identifying those responsible.

Deputies received two reports of vandalism in the Wise River/Fishtrap area over the past three weeks, according to a June 17 press release. One of those reports occurred in Deer Lodge County, and was forwarded to that agency. There may have been other incidents reported to Deer Lodge and Silver Bow officials.

Beaverhead deputies are investigating the one report, which occurred the weekend of June 12-13 at the Bryant Creek Campground, the release stated. The victims had their tires and rafts slashed, and some rafts cut loose, setting them adrift. Beaverhead County Sheriff Paul Craft said the damage was in excess of $1,500, making it a felony level incident for charging purposes.

Craft was unaware of new instances of vandalism in the area as of Monday.

The county has no suspects at this time, and is investigating the incident. Undersheriff Bill Knox asks the public to report any suspicious activity they have seen in the area to Wisdom Deputy Ken Peterson at 406-683-3700.
