What are you doing for fun with the Shelter In Place rules in effect?

With my extra time, I’ve been enjoying the sunshine when we have it. I have gone on hikes and I went on a Dirt Bike ride with my family. We had fun and it was a great opportunity to get out of the house. I am currently finishing a book series that I started a few months ago. I have plenty of time now to read!

My sister, Emily, and I have spent most of our free time repainting a nursery mural in our church. After we had a pipe breakage this winter, the mural needed to be redone. Emily and I have dreamed about repainting the Noah’s Ark scene of our childhood for years. This quarantine has been the perfect time to do it. We have been spending between 2 to 3 hours every weekday painting. It has been an amazing sister bonding project.

The things I have been doing for fun during the Shelter in Place rules in effect are painting the whole house a way different color, ceiling and walls. I have also been putting puzzles together. Right now I have five, one thousands piece puzzles together. I have also been playing video games and talking with everyone on my Playstation 4. Overall, it’s been way different but also pretty fun.

What are your feelings about online instruction compared to attending classes? Do you miss attending school and if so, why?

I am not a fan of online schooling at all. It’s frustrating not being able to ask my teachers questions that they could easily explain if they were right in front of me. As a member of both choir and band, it is simply not possible for us to learn our music as well as we could if we were with our teachers and fellow classmates. I miss being at school and seeing everyone everyday. As a senior it has been upsetting watching how this is affecting our last few months of high school.

I think that online school has been running smoothly. The teachers have sacrificed a lot of time adapting their lesson plans for us at home. As a student it tests perseverance and puts procrastination on a tightrope, but if you stay on top of things it’s manageable. Though I enjoy not having to actually function for about an hour after I get up, I miss going to school. I miss my classmates and the activities that follow the school day. You don’t realize how much you enjoy other people until you can’t see them anymore.

Going from school every weekday to nothing was stressful. Things were way simpler, having been taught things in front of me, not just trying to learn something by myself. Online school may be more relaxed by having my own time to do the school work, but it gets overwhelming. I don’t like having to come home from work and opening my e-mail to 15+ e-mails of work I have to do, at school, it was a lot easier not as much. I miss attending school, which is shocking coming from me. You don’t realize what you had till it’s gone. I miss my friends immensely.

My feelings personally about the online instructions compared to attending classes are I would rather be doing this online schooling because honestly going to school puts a lot of stress on me. Having to get up pretty early in the morning having to rush around trying to get everything done and get to classes on time is pretty stressful. I think online schooling really has had a big impact on my GPA and grades in general. When I was going to school I never really worked and paid attention like I do online because there are so many distractions. At home I can take my time and actually understand it. So overall in my opinion I would rather do online schooling instead of attending school.

During this time with the online schooling system in place I do miss my teachers and the school environment. Doing the online schooling is difficult in some aspects due to not everyone having the ability to be online and due to the fact that we can’t get face to face explanations of things. Our teachers have been doing very well at trying to accommodate all of our requests and I am very grateful for that. Still, despite some of the bumps in the schooling right now. I feel, it is overall very effective.
