No COVID restrictions yet at UMW events

The UMW’s women’s basketball team is set to play its first home game of 2022 on Saturday, starting at 2 p.m. against MSU-Northern in Straugh Gymnasium on the UMW campus in Dillon—where the Bulldog men’s basketball team is set to take on its counterpart from MSUN at 4 p.m.

As with other basketball games at UMW so far this season, fans will be welcome to attend, without additional restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

At least that was the plan, as of Tuesday morning.

But plans can change quickly during the pandemic, which has entered a new stage with the emergence of the highly contagious omicron variant.

“At this point, we are not making any changes to our fan protocols,” UMW Athletic Director Michael Feuling told the Dillon Tribune yesterday, adding that he is continuing to consult with Beaverhead County Public Health, the Montana Board of Regents and State of Montana health officials for guidance.

“We will have masks and hand sanitizer available for all our fans, but we are also being respectful of what individuals want to do to enjoy the game and feel comfortable,” added Feuling, who advised anyone thinking of attending one or both games on Saturday to first check for potential late adjustments to game schedules and fan protocols by going to the UMW Athletics website,
