The UMW men’s team placed second twice and the women were third and second at the Trapper Stampede at Cody, Wyoming, hosted by Northwest College. The rodeo opened the Big Sky Region season.

Brody Smith, a cowboy who works both ends of the arena, starred for Western through the weekend with first place bareback riding efforts in both rodeos. Other UMW buckle winners at Cody were Mikayla Witter in rodeo #2 breakaway roping, and Emmy Ilgen who won the rodeo #2 women’s all around title with a second in goat tying and fourth in goat tying.

“We struggled in the first rodeo a little bit, but we picked up a lot of momentum in the second one and I think that will carry us into the rest of the fall,” said UMW coach Cody Lahaye. “Our veterans held us together first night while we worked off some nerves and the second day we picked up a lot of momentum.”
