MISSOULA, June 24 — Congressional Candidate Monica Tranel released the following statement following the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs, State Health Officer of the Mississippi Department of Health, et al. v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization et al.:

“Today, the Supreme Court took away our freedom as women in America to live life on our own terms. The Court did what we knew was coming - it overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Today, the Supreme Court has turned the power of the State against every woman, and every family, dictating to us when, how, and whether we become parents. In doing so it has taken away our freedom to participate fully and equally in the world.

This attack does not end with abortion. One justice wrote separately to defend this decision by promising that the Supreme Court should next deny families birth control, take away same-sex marriage, and deny parents the right to educate their children.

We are not going to turn back the clock on modern life. We know what is at stake in this election.

Congress must immediately act to protect the freedom of women and families and their private decisions, including when, and whether, to have a child.

While my opponents Ryan Zinke and John Lamb have stood against American women’s freedom to live life on our terms, I’ve spent my career standing up for working families and for all Montanans and their freedom, and I’ll continue to do so in Congress.”
