She was a straight A student in high school and she earned a scholarship to Western Montana College. She moved to Alaska in August of 1967 and lived in Fairbanks until 1976 when she moved to Anchorage.

Mildred was baptized in the Catholic Church. She loved dogs and owned several wonderful poodles. She enjoyed fishing on the Kenai, photography, camping, driving (especially her Mustang), baking and reading.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Bill Schmitt, and her husband Keith Bishop.

Mildred is survived by her brother William Schmitt; sister Virginia Schmitt; son Daniel Michael Hawkins and his wife Karen; daughter Elizabeth Hammer and her husband Michael; and her grandchildren Michelle, Megan and Mackenzie Hawkins.

Millie was a beautiful person inside and out. She smiled and laughed easily with sparkles in her eyes. She always wanted to be a nurse and it showed as she was a compassionate and giving person. She overcame many obstacles through her determination, perseverance and strength.

Her greatest joy later in life was her grandchildren. She enjoyed being “Grammi Taxi” from 1998- 2013. She was the best wife, mom and grandmother. Her quick wit and delicious apple pies will be greatly missed. Wuv ou, Wuv ou.

Services will be held at a later date.
