Wild ride for Wylee

Wylee Hurst, a cowboy from Rigby, Idaho, lost his battle with George’s Hotline. The bull shot out of the chute and then levitated sideways before spinning Hurst to the ground during Sunday’s performance of the 66th annual Dillon Jaycee PRCA Labor Day Rodeo. J.P. Plutt photo

The 66th edition of the Dillon Jaycee PRCA Labor Day Rodeo lived up to the billing of Montana’s Biggest Weekend.

“It went real well,” said Dillon Jaycee Rodeo Chairman Nathan Hunt.  “We had standing room only at the rodeo Saturday night.  It was a little hot today (Sunday) but it was just as thrilling.”

While world champions and NFR veterans made their way to the pay window, local hands made the crowd roar throughout the weekend.
Tristan Hansen, a cowboy who starred at UMW, won the bareback with an 81.5 point ride aboard Land of Fancy.  Hansen now calls Dillon home. Tanner Butner, another UMW alum, placed third in saddle bronc.

Ben Folsom of Jackson teamed with Matt Williams of Rexburg, Idaho, to time a 4.3 second run in team roping and take second place.  Ty Hendrick of Jackson added an eighth place finish in tie down roping for the Beaverhead County town.
Former world champion tie down roper Haven Meged of Miles City won money in both tie down roping and team roping to win the All Around Cowboy award.
