Ingrid Joy Kaushagen

Ingrid Joy Kaushagen, 83, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021. Joy was born on Sept. 29,1938 to Melvin and Gladys Kaushagen in Ft. Benton, Montana. She was a resident of Dillon, Montana, for over 50 years. She moved to Hoover, Alabama, in November of 2020. She is a graduate of Western Montana College where she received her teaching degree.

Joy joined Parkview Elementary School in 1970 after moving back to Dillon from Hamilton, Montana, and remained there until she retired. She substituted for many years after. Everyone says she was their favorite teacher.

Joy served on the Dillon Museum board as well as the Dillon Library board.

She was honored by her sisters in ADK for 50 years of membership and served as Historian and President.

Joy loved camping and traveling but most of all showing visitors how proud she was of her beautiful home state. She was a historian of Montana for sure.

Joy was a dedicated member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dillon and served in many capacities over the years.

She moved to Alabama to live with niece Jan Steele and family in November of 2020. The family got to spend holidays and other family celebrations with Joy which was very special to all.

She is survived by niece Jan Steele (Michael); nephew Mark Kaushagen (Deanne); greatniece Heather Tucker (Brandon and child); great-nephew Chadd Benefield; great-niece Rachel Kaushagen; great-niece Danielle Miller (Scott); great-nephew Tyler Kaushagen (Christina and children).

The family will hold a memorial service at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at 715 E. Bannack, Dillon MT 59725 on Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. A fellowship hour will follow in the church fellowship center.

Interment of her ashes will be in Hamilton, Montana, alongside her parents Gladys and Melvin Kaushagen.
