On May 25, 2019 our beloved father, son, brother and friend Daniel “Danny” Martin Mc-Grath went to be with our lord after a valiant fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Danny was born Jan. 25, 1960 to Dan and Jean (Martin) McGrath at Fairchild AFB, WA. He was raised in Spokane, Puerto Rico, Louisiana, Guam, and Cheyenne, Wyoming, finally making his home in Butte his freshman year in high school. He graduated from Butte Central as valedictorian and as best athlete in his graduating class.

He attended Montana Tech and MSU, graduating with Petroleum and Mathematics degrees. After graduation he taught at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming before becoming a mathematics professor at Western in Dillon.

In Dillon, Dan met Brenda Craft. They were married and had four children, Lane, MacKenzie, Dan, and Allie. In 1992, Dan was diagnosed with ALS and chose to go on a ventilator in 1994 so that he could see his children grow. Brenda and Danny later divorced but remained friends and were diligent to raise wonderful children who were the reason Danny chose to live. The love Danny had for his children cannot be put into words but could be seen in the way he fought to live to watch them grow. His love will be with them always.

Danny was preceded in death by his grandparents Frank and Pat Martin, Nig McGrath and June Ose, father Dan McGrath, sisters Debbie Hollow and Susie Grosso, aunts Rosie Anderson and Patsy Harrington, uncles and aunts Ross and Sissy Smathers and Jerry and Carol McGrath, and best friend Dave Morris.

In addition to his children, Lane, MacKenzie, Dan and Allie, he leaves behind his mother Jean who cared for him over the years, his brother Jim (Tracy) McGrath, brother -in- law Tino Grosso, aunts Joan Thompson, Katie (Bill) Halvorson, uncles Lee Anderson, Ed Harrington, and Jack McGrath and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Danny was very fortunate to have loving friends who visited him as often as they could. A big thank you to Pat O’Dell and family, Dave O’Rourke and family, Catherine Cox, and Butte Central class of 1978.

Danny also had the best care a person could have. The family will forever be grateful for his home care nurses. A special thanks to uncles Lee Anderson and Ed Harrington for all the help during the years.

The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and respiratory specialists at St. James for their compassionate care.

Also, a special thanks to Father Haffey, Father Porter, and Deacon John Uggetti.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask to please make donations to the ALS Foundation or Butte Central Catholic Education Foundation.

Friends may call Thursday, May 30, after 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church in Butte. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s. A reception will follow.

Rest in peace Danny. Your journey here is done.
