Damaris Hoadley 1928-2022

Damaris Hoadley, 94, of Lima, died June 14, 2022. She was born March 18, 1928 in Menan, Idaho, to John Dee Cherry and Rachel Lott. Damaris married Lewis Hoadley on Sept. 1, 1946 in Lima, Montana.

The family moved to Lima when she was 16. They were involved in the Lima community every step of the way, including instrumental in the building of the Lima swimming pool and the school lunch program. She cooked lunches at the Lima school for 25 years. Her meals are still talked about today. She was the only Montana delegate for the National Food Service Association Convention in Dallas, Texas.

Damaris was a historian, compiling family histories, helping to found the Red Rock Review newspaper, and compiling records of those buried at the Lima cemetery. At the age of 90, her book, “Welcome to Lima” that tells the history of the Red Rock Valley was published. She was very proud of this accomplishment. She and Lew did professional upholstery and wood refinishing for many. They built unique birdhouses. These creations have ended up in every state and five countries.

She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings Wanlyn Aitken, Dee Cherry Jr., Roberta Bair, Neil Cherry, and Lova Loomis; and grandson Travis Edmisten.

She is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Lewis; her children Mel Hoadley (Connie), Lynnette Carlson, Cherry Long, and Kyle Hoadley (Lori); sisters Bonnie Fields and Sydna King; sister-in-law Donna Cherry; 11 grandchildren; and 35 greatgrandchildren.

She was cremated; services to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lima Swimming Pool or charity of your choice. Brundage Funeral Home in Dillon is in charge of services.
