Class A state hoops tourney moved from Butte to Great Falls

Last Friday, Montana High School Association Executive Director Mark Beckman announced via e-mail, that the State Class C and State Class A combined girls and boys basketball tournaments had been moved to different locations than originally scheduled.

The Class A tournament was originally scheduled for the Butte Civic Center. After COVID, tourney organizers planned to play the girls tourney at the Maroon Activity Center and the boys tourney at the Civic Center.

According to the MHSA press release, a problem with member schools developed when the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department was going to allow just 2 spectators per player. The Class A schools voted 18-2 to move the tournament to Montana Expo-Park at Great Falls. At Great Falls, each team will get 500 tickets, a drastic increase in the 40 tickets each team would have received had the tournament remained in Butte.

The State Class A Combined Tournament will be held March 3-6 at Great Falls.

The Class C state tournament was going to be held at MSU-Bozeman. Due to COVID concerns, MSU informed the MSHA that they could not host the event. The MHSA Board of Directors moved the tournament to Lockwood High School in Billings
