The University of Montana Western volleyball team headed further down the stretch of its fall 2021 campaign in Dillon last weekend.

On Friday night, the Bulldogs lost to the University of Providence in Straugh Gymnasium—where they fell the next afternoon to Montana State University-Northern.

Overcoming the University of Providence Argos (21-2 overall, 8-0 in the league, ranked no. 8 in the entire NAIA) always looked the daunting task.

And the Argos did not keep expectations waiting, clinching a 3-0 triumph win with a precision kill down the left sideline Bailey Christensen that also secured them Providence the regular-season conference crown.

But Saturday’s showdown with MSUN (14-11, 3-5) proved just as difficult for UMW (8-12 overall and 1-7), which pushed MSUN into extra points in the first set before succumbing, 27- 25, and then dropping the final two frames, 25-15 and 25-20.

Kaitlyn White notched a team-high 13 kills across the two matches for Western, which got 26 digs from Kelsey Goddard, Kaylee Klopp, 27 assists from Abbey Schwager, and a halfdozen blocks each by Danyel Martin, Emmah Peterson and Kaitlyn White in last weekend’s contests.

Today, Wednesday, Oct. 3, in Butte, the Bulldogs will take on Montana Tech (19-8, 5-3). UMW will then travel to Billings on Friday to take on Rocky Mountain College (9-17, 2-6).
