Beaverhead Little League delays start of season to May 11

Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Due to the drastic changes in virus spread over the past week, Little League International has recommended we delay the start of our season until May 11. This recommendation falls in line with federal guidance to limit gatherings to less than 10 individuals in order to reduce the risk of community spread of COVID-19.

This delay is disappointing as we are all desperately wishing for warmer weather and a return to our favorite spring activity and a sense of normalcy. Your Board does take heart remembering that while spring weather delayed the start of last season until May, our teams still completed fun and successful seasons. We are also excited to announce that Twin Bridges will be returning to our baseball league this year, bringing additional local opportunities for T-ball, Pony, and Minors teams.

Here are the initial actions we will take as we implement the health and safety recommendations of Little League International:

• Extend the Beaverhead Little League registration window to March 30, 2020.

• Focus on recruiting Minor League baseball players (ages 8-10) to enable creation of a stand alone Dillon/Twin Bridges schedule for this program, limiting the demand on families, reducing exposure risk, and creating a safe and fun playing environment for all.

• Evaluate our planned April 5 Coaching Clinic and First Aid Certification sessions to determine an appropriate location and size for such trainings to enable an efficient and safe start to the season.

Once students have returned to school, communicate with Beaverhead and Madison County Public Health Officials to determine a safe timeline for resumption of:

• Practices for all levels of softball and baseball.

• T-ball, Pony softball and baseball, and Minor League baseball (tentative) games with a local schedule only.

• Minor, Major, and Senior League softball and Major and Senior League baseball interleague games.

• Work with District 2 to revise planned interleague and championship schedules to ensure our athletes have an opportunity to benefit from a full season of competition.
