#6 UMW rodeo, Big Sky and CNFR success

In the third and final year of the Kody Lahaye era, the coach would resign following the College National Finals Rodeo, but enjoyed his most successful season before ending a longdistance relationship with his wife and joining her as they move forward with their lives.

“It was a hard decision, I’m obviously going to miss college rodeo,” said Lahaye. “I’ve been to the college finals in some capacity as a competitor or coach in 11 of the last 12 years. It is kind of a sad moment, but at the same time I’m going to be with my wife.”

Both the UMW men’s and women’s teams would end the always competitivc Big Sky Region season with second place finishes to qualify both teams (6 men and 4 women) to the CNFR. Big Sky Region champions were steer wrestler Bryce Harrison, team roping header Alonzo Skunkcap, bareback rider Brody Smith, and breakaway roper Ryland Lufkin.

UMW stars Harrison and Smith made it back to the short go. Harrison placed third in the nation in steer wrestling and Smith ended the rodeo 8th in bareback.
