#3 – BCHS wrestler Bret Tezak Three-time Class A state champion

Wednesday, January 2, 2019

As a freshman, Dillon’s Brent Tezak landed on the front page of Montana’s largest daily newspaper, the focus of their coverage of the Montana State All-Class Wrestling Tournament. The experience inspired the young wrestler to avoid that fate going forward. That year, Tezak advanced to the semifinal round to face senior Grayson Brenna (50-3), the eventual 132-pound state champion. “It was a Havre kid and T.J. said, ‘watch the cradle,’” recalled Tezak on Sunday. “It was the first period and that is what he did. He cradled me just like that and I remember making the front page with a purple face because that cradle was so darn tight. I said, ‘I’m not doing that again, I’m not making the front page on my back like that.” Tezak rumbled undefeated through three more divisional tournaments and three more state tournaments to end his Dillon Beaver career as a four-time divisional champion and threetime Montana Class A wrestling state champion, making him the most successful wrestler in the history of Beaverhead County High School. In the photo below, Tezak (39-2) is shown pointing to his family and friends at the Billings MetraPark, following his state championship win at 160-pounds over Glendive’s Tyler Clapp (47-7).
