BCHS softball season opener

The Dillon girls softball team will open its 2018 season on Thursday, March 29, when the Lady Beavers host Hamilton on the field behind Dillon Middle School. The varsity girls throw out the first pitch at 2 p.m., with the junior varsity to follow in a 4 p.m. game. For more information, call 683-2361.

A season revived by an impromptu whiffle ball game in January ended on Monday with the University of Montana Western women’s basketball falling just short of hitting a grand slam at the national tourney.

The Lady Bulldogs won three games at the NAIA Division 1 Women’s Basketball Championship tournament in Billings before going down gamely two days ago in a semifinal showdown.

The University of Montana Western men’s basketball team last week capped its historic season with a surge into the Elite Eight at the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship tourney in Kansas City.

“It was a heck of a run,” said UMW Head Coach Steve Keller, whose Bulldogs reached the tourney’s third round with a 75-72 triumph over Campbellsville on Friday, following a 105-96 victory against Southwestern Assemblies of God (SAGU) the previous day.

She led the league in scoring and her team to a berth in the national tournament.

For that, and numerous other accomplishments during her stellar 2017–18 campaign, University of Montana Western’s Brianna King earned Frontier Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, the league announced last week.

“She is definitely deserving of it,” said Montana Western Women’s Basketball Head Coach Lindsay Woolley of King, who averaged 18.9 points per game this season for a Lady Bulldogs team that also placed Britt Cooper and Cierra Lamey on the all-conference roster.

Regular visitors in recent years to the annual NAIA Division 1 National Men’s Basketball Championship tournament in Kansas City and the Frontier Conference All-Conference team, the University of Montana Western men’s basketball team in announcements last week earned prominent spots in both.

The Bulldogs put four players—Dom Robinson, Zaccheus Darko-Kelly, Brandon Jones and Kooper Kidgell—onto the Frontier All-Conference roster released by the league office last Tuesday.

Twin Bridges teams enjoy tourney runs

The Twin Bridges boys and girls basketball teams earned twin title wins in the 12C District Tournament last month and multiple victories in the postseason Class C tourneys to follow.

The Twin boys finally fell in the consolation final of the Western C Divisional Tournament, with the Lady Falcons sweeping through their divisionals and making it all the way to a fourth-place finish at the State C tourney last weekend.
