Vesta Claudene (Dodgson) Berberia 1942 – 2017

Claudene passed away Tuesday, November 7, surrounded by the love of her family.

Claudene was born February 17, 1942, in Butte, to Claude and Hazel (Sis) Dodgson. She was raised in Melrose, where she attended grade school. She graduated from Beaverhead County High School in 1960.

In 1962, Claudene moved to California, where she met Manuel Berberia. They wed in 1964 and had their oldest daughter, Jodi, in 1968, and Rachelle in 1970.

While Claudene loved the ocean, her love for her parents and the mountains was greater and she moved back to Montana in 1981. Following her move she worked for the Montana Forest Service and several years as a dispatcher for the Beaverhead County Sheriff’s office.

Claudene had a great passion for animals and could never say no to one of her neighborhood cats. However, the love she had for her family was unexplainable and will forever live within them.

Claudene is survived by: daughter Rachelle (Troy) Morse, of Jefferson City MT; sister Nancy (Steve) Keene, of Melrose; granddaughters Ember (Brandon) Craig, Ashley (Brett) Hicks, Tara (Keaton) Caprara, Kyla Rude, Erica Rude, and grandson Deven Duty. She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jodi Rude, and both of her parents.

There will be a funeral Monday, November 13, at 2 p.m. at Brundage Funeral Home in Dillon.
