Mick Paffhausen sets school hurdle record

A week after becoming the first BCHS runner to post a sub 15-second time in the 110 meter hurdles, Dillon’s Mick Paffhausen trimmed more than a quarter-second off his school record time to win the event with a 14.74 at last weekend’s John Tomich Invitational Track Meet in Butte.

Paffhausen then ran stride for stride with Butte Central speedster Dalton Daum before hurting his hamstring with his final stride of the 100 meter dash and falling across the finish line in second place.

The Dillon girls finished in second place as a team at the meet, while getting a pair of first-place performances from Josee Pendleton, who grabbed gold in the shot put and discus.

She was joined in the winners circle by teammates Cierra Lamey (400 meters) and Jordan Petersen (pole vault), and Dillon’s 4x100 and 4x400 girls relay teams.

Dillon’s Holly Andersen took second in both the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles, while Petersen grabbed third in the 100 meters, and Lamey picked up a silver in the triple jump, an event in which teammate Kyra Wood placed fifth.

Kylie Christiansen won silver in the discus and bronze in the javelin, while Beaver teammate Caleigh Buckmaster placed fourth in the 3200 meters.

For the boys, distance specialist Sage Schoonen earned silver in the 800 meters.

Gabe Chilson took bronze in the discus, while Luke Harper (triple jump) and Patrick Griffin (javelin) finished fifth.

Next up for Dillon track and field, a jog up to Anaconda for the Wayne Estes Invitational on Saturday.
