Virgil Reed Stewart

1929 – 2014

 

Virgil Reed Stewart, 85 of Dubois, ID, died Thursday, April 3.

He was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Teton City, ID, to Reed Frank Stewart and Sarah Marie Willey Stewart. He was raised and attended school in Teton, ID, and Lost River, ID. At the age of 12, he moved to Grant. He worked on ranches and mines in Shupe. He served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Lawton in Washington. He then worked as a handyman at the Railroad Café in Leadore, ID, where he met Dorothy Smith. They moved to Colorado to be closer to her family. After she passed away, he moved to Dubois.

 Reed was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed prospecting, hunting, fishing and any outdoor activity.

 He is survived by four sisters: Jean Beck, of Pocatello, ID; Jessie (Bruce) Corman, of Dillon; Judy (Mike) Knapp, of Anaconda; and Jaye Christensen, of Grant. He is also survived by three brothers: Keith V. Stewart, of Dubois; P. Jack (Della) Stewart, of Shelley; and Jim (Sherrie) Christensen, of Dillon. 

He was preceded in death by: his parents and grandparents, and by his companion, Dorothy Smith.

 Funeral services will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at the Beaver Creek LDS Chapel in Dubois, ID, with Bishop Neil Wood, conducting. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Dubois Cemetery.
