George leads Twin girls to cross country gold

Sunny skies smiled on the Twin Bridges Falcons Saturday as Jessica George led her girls’ team to victory at the Class C state cross country championship at Missoula’s University of Montana Golf Course.

George’s 19:02.34 first place finish time reflected a six-minute, 21-second mile pace. Joining her on the All State awards list was teammate Paige Phillips, who finished 10th with a time of 20:46.15. Also scoring for the Falcon girls was Julia Cox, who was 25th at 22:27.13

In the Class C boys’ contest, Twin Bridges’ Andrew George took his place on the medals platform, as well, after finishing in 17:15.39, good for third place. His mile average was 5:45. Also scoring for the Falcon boys were Ben Corrigan, 43rd at 19:29.72, and Colby Minert, 80th at 21:07.10

The boys’ race was won by Chance Hyatt (16:35.21, 5:32 mile pace) of Culbertson-Bainville, which took third overall. Winning the team honors was Chief Plenty Coup High School, with a score of 19.

Twin Bridges recorded the same score in the boys’ race as Great Falls Central Catholic, but was edged out by virtue of the placement of each team’s second and third runners, and ended up in 12th place.
